The Ocean City Department of Emergency Services is actively seeking qualified candidates for the position of Communications Operator I. This is entry-level communications work at the full performance level, receiving, routing and transmitting information via radio, computer terminal, and other communications equipment. The primary assignment of a Communications Operator I is to monitor, maintain, and manage an assigned public safety operations radio channel and to facilitate communications between public safety personnel, other public safety agencies, other city departments and the residents and visitors of the community. This position requires the employee to work various shift schedules including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Salary and Benefits
$33,605.00 starting salary

3.5 day work week (3 twelve hour days and 1 six hour day)

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED recognized by the Maryland Board of Education
18 years of age at the time of training completion
Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
The ability to speak clearly and distinctly
United States Citizen

Candidates must successfully complete a written examination, a battery of pre-employment tests to include a typing test, a structured interview, a psychological evaluation, and a thorough background investigation.
