TRAINING ACADEMY

Seasonal Officer

Applicants who successfully complete the selection process and are offered employment as a seasonal police officer will attend a structured and demanding 250+ hour training program. This training will begin the first weekend in May and will culminate with a graduation ceremony during the first weekend in June.

Seasonal Recruit Police Officers will receive law enforcement training in numerous topics to include:

Policy and Procedure
Ethics in Law Enforcement
Firearms
Defensive Tactics
Drill and Discipline
Use of Force
Emergency Vehicle Operations
Constitutional Law
Criminal Law
Traffic Law
Laws of Arrest
Drug Identification and Enforcement

There will be numerous written tests and skills tests throughout the academy. There will also be scenario based practical application testing.

Seasonal Recruit Police officers who successfully complete the training program will graduate and be sworn in as Ocean City Seasonal Police Officers. Seasonal Police Officers are assigned to one of the five shifts attached to the Patrol Division. Seasonal Police Officers who have an acceptable evaluation at the conclusion of their employment are given priority consideration for any full-time openings for police officers.

Many of the Seasonal Police Officers go on to successful careers in law enforcement with federal, state, county, and municipal governments.

Public Safety Aide

Applicants who successfully complete the selection process and are offered employment as a Public Safety Aide will attend a week long training program that will begin the third week of May 2022.

Public Safety Aide Recruits will receive training in numerous topics to include:

CPR and First Aid
Ethics in Law Enforcement
Booking Process
Prisoner Care and Security
Towing and Parking Enforcement
Radio Communication
Emergency Vehicle Operation
Traffic Control
CJIS Fingerprinting
Defensive Tactics and Crowd Control

Public Safety Aides who successfully complete the training program are assigned to one of six Patrol shifts or one of four Arrest and Detention shifts. Public Safety Aides who will be 21 years of age by the following summer will be afforded the opportunity to begin their Seasonal Police Officer testing during the summer.
